Welcome to Capel Cheetahs' Website

The Capel Cheetahs' running club meet on Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm at The Pavilion, Capel St Mary's, Playing field.

The evening starts with notices of race results and any forthcoming races members may wish to participate in. Members are asked to 'sign out' before and then 'sign in' at the end of their run. Capel Cheetahs run a buddy system to welcome all new members to the club and ensure no one is left behind

Members are encouraged to warm up before and cool down after their run. Each month there is also a 'special' session normally involving a coached speed session.

Capel Cheetahs also host the annual Capel 5 and 1 Mile fun run.

The ever popular Friday 5 series is back. A series of races over the summer hosted by a variety of local clubs. The first race hosted by Ipswich JAFFA on 26th May 2017

This summer, The Cheetah's descented on Christchurch park, Ipswich to participate in the popular Summer 5k series. Heidi Knight taking on the role of team captain ensured a good turn out for what was an extremely enjoyable experience (Despite the Hill!!!!!) Results for the series found below:

The Cheetahs fielded three teams for the Annual Ekiden Relay hosted by Ipswich Jaffa. The teams organised by Heidi Knight done the club proud with the Ladies Super Veterans team coming third in their catagory!! Results for each team:

18th June 2017 - CAPEL 5 AND FUN RUN

Results now available. Click here. Three Cheetahs competed in what was probably the hottest Capel 5 to date. First home for the Cheetahs was Neal Hannigan finishing in 40th Position in a time of 42:01. Next across the line was Paul Hales in 48:44. First female Cheetah across the line was Amanda Prior in 50:10. A huge achievement even finishing the notoriously difficult race coupled with the hot conditions. First across the line in the 1 Mile fun run was 12 year old Chloe Gilbert in an impresive 04:59.

A very successful event this year. A huge thank you to David Moles the race director and the race committee who put in hours of their on time to get this popular event going.

6th June 2017 - Summer 5K Series Race 1

The Cheetahs Regular tuesday training run moved to Christchurch park where 15 runners participated in the Summer 5k Series. Matthew Whitley and Harry Prior lead the Cheetahs home finishing in an impressive 23:20 taking overall 25th and 26th place. Following them was Paul Maycock 24:12, Diane Parton 24:38, Paul Hales 25:12, Karen Shelley 26:48, Nicola Whitley 27:05, Steve Prior 27:21, Lorna Maycock 27:24, Heather Ruff 27:26, Amanda Prior 27:58, Sharon Williets 28:38, Janet Lawrence 31:59, Lindsey Gannon 33:54 and Cheryl Smith in 34:16. All runners showing excellent form picking up the well deserved medal!

15th March 2017 - Club Update and Beginners Triumph in 5k

Tuesday night saw the beginners course complete a 5k run around the village. The ten week course culmulated in all participates completing the course organised and run by club coach Heidi Knight, supported by members of Capel Cheetahs' running club. This was a massive achievement for some who only started running ten weeks ago! At the conclusion of the run all were presented with a medal and certificate. Well done to Hannah Williets, Sue Telling, Stephen Prior, Janet Lawrence, Lindsey Gannon, Cheryl Smith, Natalie Bass, Harry Prior, Tracey Elliiot, Emma Westwell and Joyce Bennett who all completed the course. We hope to see all in Capel Cheetahs running colours soon!!

The Last month has seen a number of impressive performances from Capel Cheetahs runners. On 5th March 2017 David Moles took on the Paris Half Marathon finishing in an impressive 02:04:50. The same day In the Cambridge Half Marathon Diane Parton finishing in a strong time of 01:50:41 improving on her previous PB set in Bentley by 33 seconds.

A week later on 12th March 2017 six Cheetahs took on the Colchester Half Marathon. First home was William Meader finishing in 01:51:28 closely followed by David Moles in 01:54:17 and David Telling in 01:55:14. Helen Yellop lead the ladies home in a time of 01:55:56 with Club chairman Sue Wilshaw following in 02:09:34. Nichala Wilson completing the impressive Cheetahs turnout in 02:18:12.

Capel Cheetahs continue to show a presence at the local Parkruns with Heidi Knight and Diane Parton running in times of 32:55 and 25:06 respectively. Capel Cheetahs always welcomes new members. No one is too fast or too slow and whatever your ability you will find a friendly group of people happy to run.

5th February 2017 - Great Bentley Half Marathon

Three Cheetahs' raced at the ever popular and sold out Great Bentley Half Marathon with some extremely impressive performances. First home was Sandra Bumphrey who ran a Personal Best, beating her previously held Club record at the distance by 5 minutes in a time of 1:44:57. Next home was Diane Parton in a time of 1:51:14, This performance itself being the 3rd fastest Half marathon by a female Cheetah of all time. Third home in an equally impressive and fast time was Nicola Whitley in 2:00:24.

 11th December 2016 - Dame Kelly Holmes 10k & Needham Lake 5k

Two Cheetahs posted race results this week. Paul Maycock maintaining his form competed in the popular Ipswich Parkrun on Saturday where he posted a competitive time of 25:12 which saw him arrive home in 86th place. Not content with one race a weekend Paul travelled to Needham on Sunday where he competed in the Great Run Local Needham Lakes 5k finishing in 16th position in an improved time of 24:38. Paul is proving to be the Cheetah to beat at the 5k distance! Sharon Williets travelled to the Olympic Stadium where she competed in the Dame Kelly Holmes 10k race. Sharon ran strong finishing in 70th position overall and 23rd in her age group in a time of 53:01. An impressive performance when the 533 strong field of runners is taking into consideration.

4th December 2016 - Ipswich Parkrun and Sri Chinmoy 2 Mile Race

One result from Saturday this weekend saw Sandra Bumphrey again better her time from last weeks Ipswich Parkrun whilst using all the same digits recording a time of 23:23!! Sandra was 40th Home overall and 3rd female in a field of 187. Sunday saw Paul Maycock run the Sri Chinmoy Peace Mile Anniversary 2 Mile Race in Ipswich where he finished 11th Overall and 2nd in his age group posting an impressive time of 15:02.

27th November 2016 - 5k Weekend

Two Cheetahs raced this weekend both taking on the Popular Ipswich parkrun on Saturday. Sandra Bumphrey was first female home recording a scorching time of 23.32 making her the lady to beat in Ipswich! Paul Maycock also ran the challenging route in a time of 26:02. Not content with one race in a weekend Paul once again donned his running trainers recording an impressive time of 25:41 in the Christchurch park 5k less than 24 hours later.

20th November 2016- The Cheetahs run Hadleigh

Five Cheetahs braved the cold, rain and wind today for the Hadleigh 5 and 10 mile races.
The weather was wet and the course littered with puddles and mud.
In the 10 Mile race, Diane Parton lead the team home whilst also breaking
a year old Club Record over the 10 mile distance in a time of 01:27:23.
Closely followed by Helen Yellop in a time of 01:30:30, another time
that would have broken the club record had it not been for Diane's
outstanding performance. Heather Ruff was next home in her first race since finding out she will be running the London Marathon next year, in a time of 01:38:14. With Lisa Gaughan also completed the difficult course in a time of 01:50:19.
Amanda Prior was the sole Cheetah in the 5 mile race continuing her rich vein of form clocking a time of 47:58.
